HoMedics Back Massagers

Researching the HoMedics back massager range, their features, benefits, prices etc, one is struck by the sheer number of positive comments there are from satisfied users. Whether these cushions are being used to help with the symptoms of particular ailments and conditions, such as sciatica, arthritis or frozen shoulder, or just for the relief of the aches and pains resulting from a hard day at work, the reports appear overwhelmingly good. Long hours spent standing or sitting can take their toll.

You can control the strength of the massage by how hard you lean back into the cushion – but be careful, the action can be intense if you lean too hard! The motion of the heads is controlled by a hand-held unit, and can be programmed in many cases.

HoMedics Vibration Massager

The first model in the range to look at is the BKP-100-2GB. Unlike all the others, this is not a Shiatsu massager – the action is purely vibration, provided by five motors. There is a choice of two speeds, together with heat if you require. The cushion is simple, nor over-powerful, but provides excellent relief for mild aches and pains – at a very good price too.

HoMedics Shiatsu Massager Range

The first of the Shiatsu massagers is the SBM-210H-3GB. Again simple in design, it’s a great entry-level model. Programmable to act on the upper or lower back, or both. Heat of course. It’s at a price that makes it easy to try out the concept to see if it’s right for you.

The next model is the SBM-300H-3GB. You get the same simplicity, but with some useful added features. You get the rolling massage option, which is gentler in action. Also spot massage, where you can use the handset to stop the heads temporarily at any point to concentrate the massage at particular troublesome spots. Also useful is the ability to adjust the spacing between the heads to suit the width of your back.

Moving up the range we get to the SBM-400HX-GB. This model is useful if you are on the taller side, as the back is extended as you can see. The 400 has all the features of the HoMedics range – Shiatsu and vibrating massage action plus heat – which HoMedics call their ‘3D’ functionality. Also rolling massage action, width adjustment and spot massage, together with a carrying bag. All you need really, and it’s very smart in appearance too I think.

The SBM-500HA-3GB is the next model up. It is a departure in design in that there are now two pairs of massage heads in separate areas, the upper pair to concentrate on the upper shoulders and neck. The two areas are independently controlled, so you can massage both back and shoulders at the same time – a great advantage. All the other options (heat, rolling and spot massage, width adjustment) are there, but note that the 500 does not offer a vibration mode.

Top of the range is the SBM-600H-GB. Here you get all the bells and whistles – full ‘3D’ functions of heat, vibration and Shiatsu massage, together with rolling and spot massage and width adjustment. Also the separate independent back and shoulder zones, and a carrying bag as well. If you want all that the concept can offer, then the 600 is the one to go for.

If portability and space considerations are important, then the SFM-250H-GB is well worth a look. It’s designed to fold into a compact bundle, and features an integral carrying bag for easy transport. The massage functionality is not quite as great as some other models in the range – it has heat, Shiatsu and vibrating massage for the back, but lacks the spot and rolling massage options. The width is not adjustable either. However, the portability and ease of storage is the main point of this model. The principal Shiatsu massage with heat is still there of course.

The Swedish massage model, the QRM-409H-3GB is another variation on the theme. The mechanism is somewhat different, having rollers rather than rotating heads. While still offering a Shiatsu massage, the action is much gentler, particularly in rolling mode. The rollers can be heated of course and the width adjusted. Spot massage is still an option in the program. Some taller users report that the mechanism doesn’t reach quite high enough for a full back massage. The vast majority are thrilled with their purchase though.

So why choose a HoMedics back massager? With life revolving at such a pace and pressures from both home and work, it has become harder to schedule time out just to relax and help alleviate stress. But fitting in time for spa/salon treatments can just add to the pressure. By owning your own back massager, you can enjoy the flexibility of having your massage at a time to suit you, and in the ease and privacy of your own home. Apart from which, the money you can save compared to having a professional massage is significant to say the least.

Perhaps a massage cushion is not a complete replacement for professional treatment, but the advantages of cost and convenience are undeniable. They seem like a great idea.
